Creating Articles When You Are Not A Writer – Article You Can Use And Reprint

Creating Articles When You Are Not A Writer – Article You Can Use And Reprint

I mentioned in my last post that I had reworked an article I posted on February 5th and I wanted to share the new and improved article with you. I added more helpful information to it and rounded the article out some more so it not only provides you more information, but also can provide you with more content that you can use on your website or blog or even in your newsletter (all I ask is that you leave the resource box at the end of the article in place).

So here we go…

We all have different talents and abilities. That is one of the things that keep the world turning. Some of us do one thing well while others do other things well. Everybody can’t write articles. Even all writers can’t write articles and particularly marketing articles that are to be used on websites as pre-selling tools can often pose a major challenge. As an internet marketer, you may be really good at doing what you do but if writing effective articles just isn’t one of your many talents you may find yourself stuck with seemingly no way out. After all, you have heard time and time again that writing articles is a great way to get your website and ultimately the service or product you are offering, noticed and an excellent way to get more visitors to your site. That can be a major problem because you need content for your website, so where are you going to get those articles and e-books that will establish you as a guru in your field?

There are, of course, websites that provide ‘free’ content. You can easily find these sites by using your favorite search engine and typing in ‘free web content’. You will get a lot of hits. The problem with using this free content is that it has to be used without change. The links and resource box information must be included when you put these articles and e-books on your website. This article is a good example of that. In it you are getting a lot of helpful tips, but if you would like you use it on your own website or in your newsletter, then you will need to include the author’s resource box at the end of the article. While this is not a bad way to add more content to your website, you should use it sparingly, because you also need to create your own articles, in your own voice and style that are unique from all the other articles. So if you choose to reprint other author’s articles, make sure to include the resource box, but only lightly sprinkle those articles in with your very own to ensure your own expertise and branding grows. If you just use reprinted articles, it won’t serve to establish you as the guru but rather help to establish the writers of the articles and e-books as experts and you certainly will not be creating articles or e-books yourself. However, it can provide you with a wealth of additional information and content you can include on your website or blog. A good tip to help you still get some recognition for your contribution and to help establish yourself as an expert in the field is to ‘wrap’ the article. All this means is that you create an introduction to the topic the article covers as well as a final recap. You could even add links to other resources in your recap section, perhaps leading to an affiliate offer you can generate revenue with.

To begin your ‘wrap’ introduce the topic by discussing the problems the reader is facing. Suggest that there are solutions to help solve the problem, perhaps even adding a solution or two the author of the article didn’t cover. Alternatively you can also choose to expand on a few of the points the author made in their article. Then start the article inclusion, but don’t forget to include the author’s resource box and do not edit or modify the article as that will be against the terms and conditions that allow you to post the article on your site. The final step, the recap is another great spot to perhaps elaborate on some of the suggestions made in the article or perhaps include some additional suggestions you can offer to resolve the reader’s problem. This is where your expertise on the topic can shine through.

If wrapping someone else’s article isn’t the way you’d like to move forward, then there are always other ways of creating articles without writing a single word on the topic. One way would be to visit sites like Rent-a-Coder and get bids from ghost writers to write for you. You can put your name on these articles and e-books and add your own resource box. You can get original articles written quite inexpensively but there is a problem. You will get usable articles, usually, but you won’t get really good ones. You will find that little or no research has been done and the articles and e-books will be filled with information that is readily available to everybody on the internet. You will really need to do your research to ensure high quality articles if you use this option or the Private Label Rights option to create content for your website and blog. In essence, these types of articles will provide you with a starting point, but to make it really shine you will still need to add more content and expand on the points the ghostwriter made.

You can search for good ghost writers yourself. There are a lot of excellent ones out there but this could be a very long and drawn out process so if time is of the essence this might not be the best of plans.

The bottom line here is that if you aren’t a writer but still need to have articles written, you can go the way of free website content for which you get no credit and do not establish yourself as a guru, you can use a site such as Rent-a-Coder and hope for the best, or you can join a Private Label Rights site (but make sure there is a limited number of distributions or members to avoid saturation and ALWAYS, ALWAYS rework the content to make it unique and add your own voice) and for just a little money establish yourself as the guru and increase your web traffic many times over.

No matter which option you choose, you always need to make sure you can add high-quality content to your website and blog that will allow you to share your knowledge and expertise with your readers and the world.

Well, I goofed up but the good news is you can learn from my potential mistake.

Well, I goofed up but the good news is you can learn from my potential mistake.

Ok, let me start off by saying this isn’t normal for me. A total bonehead move to be quite honest, and while I still can’t believe what I just did, perhaps it can help you avoid the same mistake possibly.

That’s why I am willing to share how I just screwed up…

One thing you already know, if you’ve been following me for any length of time, is that unlike some of the coaches and mentors out there, I will readily admit when I goof and make mistakes and tell you about them so you can hopefully learn from them. After all, we’re all human and I don’t care who you are in this world, but we all make mistakes and the key really is what we learn from them.

So, let’s talk about this error that occurred between keyboard and chair just a few minutes ago…

This past week I was working with the team from EzineArticles.com to get my accounts all sorted out again, so I can begin publishing articles again. If you recall, when I went offline for a couple of years, I lost my original .com domain and that caused quite a bit of havoc when I came back to the net, including with EzineArticles.

But their team was awesome, triple-checking that I am really me and so on and helping me get everything straightened out again so I can once again log in and begin to submit articles and I have quite a few I have been working on for just that very reason.

By the way, if you didn’t already know, submitting your articles, along with a strong author’s resource box, is a great way to get more traffic to your website, but that’s a topic for another day. For now, let me just share that I still have 9 articles for example over on EzineArticles.com (you can see them here) that have had more than 4,500 views and when I checked the title of just one of them, that particular article has been reprinted on over 1,000 sites. Just think about all of those sites with a link back to your domain and you can see why it’s such a great resource.

So…

My logins are all good, I have updated my resource box to reflect the XavierNelson.net domain as well as my more current information regarding who I am and what I do…

Let’s start submitting…

Well, and this is where things started to go wrong and I should have paid a little more attention to be quite honest.

I’ve been very busy these last few weeks, perhaps too busy and to top it off, if you are following me on FaceBook, then you know I’ve been dealing with a medical issue that frankly has not just had me distracted, but essentially has been aggravating the daylights out of me because it’s not getting resolved and is escalating.

So I sat down with my trusted laptop to continue reworking an article I had started on a while back, expanded it some more, gave more helpful information and when I was done with it I logged in to my Author’s panel to submit it.

None of the links were working correctly…

I couldn’t preview, I couldn’t save a draft, I couldn’t submit, you name it, none of it seemed to work in Firefox. Ok, let’s try Chrome… NOPE… Same problems again.

I honestly tried about 4 or 5 times in each of the browsers, never once thinking to use or try IE (not really wild about IE) or even remembering that WAYYYYY back when EzineArticles.com was always optimized and in most cases would only work through IE.

So after wasting too much time, it finally dawned on me to try IE and BINGO… It all worked…

I chose my categories, I added my title, my excerpt and the article itself. My default resource box was already there waiting for me, so after adding a few keywords and checking the preview everything looked great and I submitted my article.

I was so excited, I was going to write a post to tell you all about my new upcoming article and the many more I have planned going forward and to remind you how essential article marketing and article submission directories are to your own site and traffic.

Then I noticed my most recent post here at XavierNelson.net, the one from February 5th and I nearly fell over.

There was the original I had worked on and expanded and sent to EzineArticles.com like a total bonehead.

You see, to submit an article it needs to be unique and not already published out on the web. Well, I, like a goof, totally forgot I had already published mine at the beginning of the month, that’s how distracted I’ve been by everything else. NO EXCUSES – I SCREWED UP!

While I had added quite a bit more to the article to round it out and add even more helpful content and information to it, it is very doubtful it is THAT unique at this point, that any article directory will accept it.

So I am pulling it from my submissions, but here we are and instead of telling you about how excited I am, after several years, to start publishing articles again, and that you are free and welcome to use them on your site and in your newsletter, I am telling you about how I really screwed up and wasted a couple of hours today doing so.

Alright, enough for tonight, tomorrow is a new day and there are fun, exciting things to accomplish  🙂

On a good note, not all of my efforts, however limited, were a bust today. I was able to get HootSuite and Network Publisher (LinksAlpha) completely working again, got my updates in WP done and also was able to share with you some hopefully helpful information that will keep you from wasting a few hours by not making the mistakes I did today.

Bottomline is that I still took a few smaller steps forward and that is the key to success…

Don’t ever stop moving forward, learn from mistakes and keep your eye on the horizon (your goals)!

Here’s to your success,
Xavier
